My name is Russ Lambert and I live near the D-FW area of north Texas.  Before anything else, “Welcome.”  I’m glad you’re here, and as we’d say in the South, “Come on in, set a while”.

Primarily due to health reasons I retired from the State of Texas on the last day of March 2017.  While nothing is perfect in this life, I generally enjoyed my work, and truthfully, retirement came along a couple of years sooner than I had hoped it would.  It would be easy to prop up in my recliner and spend the rest of my life watching the Western Channel, but I still want to do something, hopefully something productive.

To that end, since retiring I’ve been running a small store to help supplement my retirement income.  I've decided to expand out a little bit, launching this site, and a couple more ventures I'm looking at.  Actually, to do something like a blog or a webpage was my wife’s idea.  I enjoy reading, and I always wanted to write (but seldom did).  But, I’m still able to punch a keyboard, so, finally I decided to get started.  I figured the worst that could happen is that I would find myself “talking” to myself, and there are times I find that happening anyway.  Now then, there’s no sense in trying to be anything other than what I am.  I pretty much write like I talk, so if you start thinking you’re listening to a guy who grew up in a small town in east Texas, well guess what … you’re listening to a guy who grew up in a small town in east Texas.

I’ve done a fair amount of research into the subject, and the most common advice about starting a project like this is to pick topics you're passionate about.  At first, I thought, well that leaves me out; what can I call myself passionate about?  Then I went back and thought about it for a little while.

I’m going to start right at the top;

God. I am a man of faith.  I hold strong Christian beliefs.  But I don’t just believe; I know that God is a great big God who is all-powerful, all-knowing, and all-caring.  His love for mankind is beyond what I’m capable of understanding, and the sacrifice of His Son for us all demonstrates that love.  I’m sure I will frequently be posting Christian-based content.

Next, my family.  I never knew I had it in me to love anyone the way I love my wife.  Linda became my wife in February 1975, and still to this day I will say that the worst day I have ever spent with her is better than the best day I ever spent without her.  I truly believe that when God decided it was time for me to get married, He gave me the very best He had to offer.  Linda and I have two daughters, Jill and Shannon, and we have three granddaughters.  I have been richly blessed, and I am a very proud husband, father, and grandfather.  I've also been blessed with a younger brother, Mark, who pulls double duty as my best friend.  There is no one I would rather spend my spare time with, and thankfully we live pretty close to each other.

My country. This country is the greatest nation in the history of the world.  I hope and pray she remains that way.  I will do anything and everything I can to contribute my part toward that end.  If it means simply that I pay taxes and vote in every election, that’s what I’ll do.  If it means dying by the hands of an enemy, that’s what I’ll do.  Or if it means anything in between, that is also what I’ll do.

Texas. If the USofA is the greatest nation in the history of the world, then Texas is the greatest part of that nation.  No place else has such a rich mixture of history, tradition, culture, and everything else good.  I heard someone say once that it would be better to be a fencepost in Texas than to be king of California (or any other place).  I believe it.  Note: I do love Florida; Florida would be a close second.

Politics. In this country we have two major political parties.  There are people in both parties that claim to love this country.  But, they have very different value systems and different visions for the future of our country.  I'm sure I'll spend some time there.

Music/Dance. Who doesn’t love music?  Personally, I can’t carry a tune in a bucket, but that doesn’t keep me from trying.  At least when I’m alone.  We all have our favorite types, or genres, that we prefer, but it’s all music (except hip-hop; that’s just noise).  I expect to post often along this subject line.

Be good to one another, and God Bless.
